Pulling up to full production with idoba’s change readiness program

How idoba helped a major iron ore processing facility almost triple its production, from 30K to 80K tons, per during a time of significant change

When we were approached by a major iron ore company who were struggling to meet their goals, we knew this was right up our alley. We love seeing companies transform. Despite personnel and infrastructural challenges, this company was ready to take on the future differently.

The iron ore facility was behind on its  production goals, facing a potential loss of revenue and struggling to transition from a 3rd party operator. We knew we needed to disrupt their current trajectory in order to help them meet the future they were striving for.

Together we created a change readiness program that increased the company’s production from 30 thousand to 80 thousand tons per day. And even better, it took the company from stagnating under third party facility management to thriving with owner management.

We focused on changing outdated approaches and our solution established innovative ways of working. To do that we integrated a core team of 25 consultants, who offered expert cross-functional skills sets including process control, business improvement and analysis, reliability engineering and management. We established a Program Management Office to revamp operational issues. And we brought in the right people with the right capabilities to smoothly transition employees to the owner operated site.

Transformation is always a challenging process. But when done right, it’s also hugely rewarding. The change readiness program saw outstanding results for the entire facility. We established a sustainable management structure for site operations, ensured that improvements would continuously impact performance and transitioned over 400 existing employees and new personnel to the owner-operated site with a minimum of friction.

And within four months, the facility was not only meeting full production, but going from a production of 30 to 80 thousand tonnes per day. And it had not only improved train loading performance, but increased it from 30% to 80% of trains loading under two hours.

The best part? The facility made all these improvements during a time of significant change and upheaval.
