Collaborative excellence at idoba’s Pints, Pizza and Products showcase

Underground mine operators were given a demonstration of Perenti’s competitive edge at idoba’s recent Pints, Pizza and Products event – the result of our unique ability to collaborate across technology, consulting and real-life, hard-nosed mine operations.

idoba’s innovative, AI-powered technology products were on show as interactive demos at Wednesday evening’s event, attended by a cross-section of WA’s underground mining community.

The live-testing advantage of in-house collaboration

Mick Radi, Vice President Australia - Perenti Contract Mining

Barminco’s Mick Radi opened the event by emphasising Perenti’s commitment to technology and innovation within the mining sector. Barminco and idoba (along with Orelogy, an idoba company) are part of the Perenti group of companies and Radi described the mutual benefits that come from deep collaboration between group companies.

The in-house collaboration means Barminco’s contract mining experts can work directly with their idoba colleagues who are designing future technology solutions. Importantly, it also means that idoba can test and refine its solutions in challenging, real-world, underground, hard-rock environments. Most technology companies don’t have that option. They may have great ideas but lack the evidence of trial data to win investment and get them off the ground.

idoba – working with Barminco – side-steps that problem. We can field-trial and refine products so that they come to market stronger and fitter. It’s an approach demonstrated by the recent roll out of MPN to all Barminco's Australian sites in just four weeks.

idoba empowers intelligent choices and accelerates impact

Sarah Coleman, idoba President

Sarah Coleman, idoba President, discussed our current capabilities, emphasising their focus on reshaping mining through cutting-edge software products. Alongside those products and the mine planning expertise of our Orelogy consultants, Sarah outlined the DiiMOS™ platform that sits at the heart of idoba’s thinking.

DiiMOS™ –Distributed Intelligent Integrated Mining Operating System – takes a human and problem-centred approach to decision-making. By reaching across operational silos and complementing existing, installed systems, DiiMOS™ caters for an increasingly complex and interconnected reality where ESG and other stakeholder concerns are a vital part of the decision-making process. By facilitating intelligent choices, DiiMOS™ accelerates impact in the mining value chain.

An MPN deep-dive and hands-on VR demos

David Andrews, Principle Consultant at idoba and Ben Keyser, Operations Manager at Barminco

David Andrews (idoba) and Ben Keyser (Barminco) took guests on a deep dive into MPN’s deployment, and its evolution from prototype to sophisticated forecasting and decision-support tool running across 12 Barminco Australian sites.

Dave and Ben shared how real-world testing and trialling led idoba to re-engineer MPN’s forecasting function with in-house-developed deep learning neural network models for ore, development, longhole, bogging and trucking, using metadata captured from PLODs as inputs. With dramatically improved forecast accuracy, MPN now offers potentially game-changing, proactive decision support.

Following the deep dive, guests enjoyed pints, pizza and our products in interactive demos, including our immersive Gemini 3D VR mine simulation.
