idoba at IMARC 2023: from energy transition to 3D simulation
The energy transition, environmental resilience and the challenge of decarbonising mining’s value chain were key themes of this year’s IMARC event.
Were you at IMARC, last week? We’ve just wrapped up an amazing three-day conference which gave us a fantastic opportunity to showcase our work as part of the Perenti group.
Demonstrating our immersive Gemini VR simulation
As we announced before the event, we showcased our VR model of an operational mine built on our Gemini simulation software and Meta Quest VR headsets.
Designed to drag your operational future right into the present, the 3D simulation was a big hit with kids and professionals.
We were thrilled to demo the Gemini VR model to a group of 233 primary school students as part of the new Bright Future STEM / IMARC NextGen Junior Program.
However, it was Barminco Operations Manager Dan Sharp, who took the record for the longest time spent exploring its capabilities. Teleporting from ROM to pit, he could check crusher performance and how long diggers would be waiting for trucks under a proposed dispatch plan, fully testing the boundaries of Gemini’s immersive 3D simulation.
Leading the discussion on decarbonising mines
Elsewhere at IMARC, Perenti people led and participated in discussions on decarbonisation and electrification.
We believe that it is only through collaboration that the mining industry will be able to sustainably mine the resources needed to enable the energy transition. That was the theme that ran through our presentations:
Mark Norwell, Perenti CEO and Managing Director gave a keynote address on the Decarbonisation Revolution – Being Smarter Together is Critical to Enable our Mines of Tomorrow.
Sarah Coleman, President of idoba, gave a presentation on A Technology Journey that Supports the Increasing Complexity Facing Operations.
Darren Kwok, Head of Mining Electrification and Technology at Perenti spoke on Going All-Electric: Collaborating to Fully Electrify IGO’s Underground Cosmos Nickel Project.
Paul Linabury, Perenti’s Manager of Electrification joined a panel discussion on Overcoming Electrification Roadblocks – What Challenges Still Exist, and Where to Next?
idoba and Perenti – Driving mine productivity and sustainable operations
Perenti comprises a diverse range of contract mining, mining services and technology focused businesses, and idoba provides software technology and expert consulting within that. With over 1,500 projects delivered over the past decade and nearly 200 clients worldwide, idoba has the deep expertise and powerful technology to help reshape and decarbonise mining.
You can read more about how idoba fits within the Perenti group in this International Mining interview with Perenti Managing Director and CEO Mark Norwell.
